I’ve been active on and off in politics for about 25 years and I usually have pretty strong opinions. Don’t peg me as conservative or liberal, although classical liberal might come close. My political philosophy can be pretty well summed up as follows: I want the government out of my bedroom, out of my billfold, and off of my back. If I’m not hurting someone else, and offending their sensibilities or personal beliefs doesn’t count, then leave me the hell alone (I can say that on a blog).
I’m not a member of any organized political party, in the words of Will Rodgers. I’m basically a little l Libertarian. I’ve been in the party structure and run for office on a couple of occasions, although to be honest, if I thought I might have much of a chance of winning I might not have. I have no particular desire to go to Washington DC on anything but a vacation or study trip.
The “old” saying is that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. My corollary is that power attracts the corrupt and corruptible. By their very nature, the people we want in power are the ones who really don’t want to be there.
This blog will be my ongoing educational and debate fix.
